Things To Do In Andorra

As an any-time-of-year destination, Andorra is packed with cool things to do.

That list ranges from the somewhat obvious (skiing) to the sublimely relaxing (bird watching) to the absolutely exhilarating (flying down a mountain-biking run).

Andorra’s compact and, for the most part, spontaneous good times are around every corner. In a few cases, reservations will help and a little planning never hurt, right?

Use this comprehensive guide to fill your activity checklist with more than you think you’ll need and you’ll never be bored!

Why is Andorra Such a Popular Destination?

The first reason is our mix of a convenient location—next to Spain and France, an easy flight from the UK—combined with an unspoiled, off-the-beaten-track status.  Once you’ve made the easy journey here, there is plenty to do that doesn’t involve standing in line.

On one hand, you know what you’re getting when you book a holiday in Andorra: mountains and lots of them. For starters, the alpine activities go beyond just skiing and snowboarding.

But there is also a growing list of activities here, away from the mountains. From cultural events to spa treatments, we cover all of the best in this guide.

Famously, we get 250 days of sunshine in an average year. So, many of the activities here will take you outside and into the fresh air. If you visit during the summer, you’re unlikely to find that it’s ever too hot—the temperature rarely gets above 30°C here.

Winter Activities in Andorra

Picking Andorra for your snow-season vacation is a no-brainer. Especially here in Arinsal, where we have one of Europe’s best ski resorts at our doorstep.

And if you’re coming here without equipment or want to tune up your skills, there are plenty of ski hire options and top-notch ski schools.

Snowboarding Is Andorra's Staple Outdoor Adventure

Snowboarding is always looking to challenge skiing as the most popular winter activity. Details you need to know are:

  • Arinsal has a good halfpipe and terrain park setup for snowboarders.
  • With jumps, rails and a large halfpipe, the snowpark at El Tarter is also a favourite.
  • Andorra mostly has modern chairlifts with very few t-bar lifts.

Snowboarding is, increasingly, one of the top winter activities here in Arinsal, Andorra.

Skiing and Snowboarding for Kids and Beginners

At the Arinsal ski resort we have a Baby Park and Peke Parc for the older kids (aged 4 - 8). Over in Canillo there’s a Family Park filled with slopeside entertainment for the kids.

As children become more eager to improve their skills (or adults look to refresh theirs), the ski schools in Andorra are a great option for lessons.

Other Cool Things to Do In the Andorran Winter

At Sant Moritz, we can connect you with a full menu of excursions, including snowshoeing treks and helicopter rides.

Dog sledding is one of those things in Andorra that feels like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. There’s a good facility over at Grandvalira.

What to Do in Andorra During Summer?

If anything, the summer in Andorra (not to mention spring after the snow melts and fall while it’s still pleasant) offers a wider variety of activities.

Comapedrosa Natural Parc Near Arinsal and Other Outdoor Experiences

This is one of those best places to truly get a sense of how close we are to totally unspoiled nature. Just a short drive from Arinsal, Parc Natural de les Valls del Comapedrosa offers a great day out of doors for all.

The hikes cover a really large range of difficulties and this is an experience to truly surround yourself with nothing but trees and rivers. You can literally walk here from the door of Sant Moritz's apartments.

Bird watching attracts a passionate following to Andorra in search of rare mountain bird species.

It’s also a great place to take up bird watching, one the easiest and most popular activities.

Andorra is so beautiful that some of our natural features, like the Madriu-Perafita-Claror Valley are recognised UNESCO sites.

Climbing and Via Ferrata in All Parts of the Country

For many, just hiking the mountain trails in Andorra won’t be enough. We get it.

If you’ve thought about doing some serious mountain climbing the via ferrata might be an excellent stepping stone. These routes, that are at their best in Andorra, offer handholds and cables to attach to. Like climbing, but with a bit less equipment and skill required.

Move Yourself Around by Bike

Mild days, especially before it gets really warm in August, are great for setting out on a cycling trip across Andorra. We’re a bike-friendly accommodation, conveniently connected to some of the best cycling routes in the region.

Pro tip: Collada de Beixalis is one of the most popular routes in Andorra for a reason. It's accessible just down the road from Sant Moritz in La Massana.

Andorra in Summer Is Perfect for Mountain Biking

As the snow starts to melt, mountain bikers in Andorra start the countdown. With summer comes a shift in focus from skiing to mountain biking.

With the addition of Arinsal to Vallnord Bike Park we gain a new top choice for activities in Arinsal.

On top of the traditional runs (for every difficulty level) we also have a Fun Zone, BMX and pump track here in Arinsal.

All-Weather Activities

We might be the most beautiful mountain country in the world, but it does occasionally rain here. This is how you can stay busy on those indoor days.

Hiking the picturesque valleys is one of the top things to do in Andorra.

Shopping as a Pastime in Andorra

Other than skiing, duty-free shopping is the other activity that you’ve probably already heard we’re famous for.

In Arinsal, we’re close to Andorra la Vella so options from independent boutiques to large shopping centres are just a short drive away.

Come during April or November for the organised shopping festivals and you’ll be even more pleased with the deals.

Head to the Spa for the Day

There are some truly impressive spa experiences in Andorra. More small-scale options that feature massage and other treatments are spread across the country.

But for a sort of theme park of relaxation, head to Caldea or Inuu in Escaldes-Engordany. The former has facilities for all ages and the latter is adults only. Both feature the full range of spa activities based around the area’s natural, thermal spas.

Participate in Cultural Activities

From theatre to dance to cinema to special festivals, Andorra puts on a varied schedule of stimulating activities.

There are a couple tools that do a really excellent job of setting out the whole calendar nearby in Ordino and across all of Andorra.

Look for special highlights like Andorra la Vella’s Carnival celebration in spring and the annual Cirque du Soleil visit in summer.

Children's Activities

As well as diversifying from downhill, one of the biggest recent changes here is that we really are a whole-family destination. The long list of things do with children includes:

  • Take them to Likids, the spa and entertainment facility for kids at Caldea.
  • In Naturlandia, the outdoor adventure park there is plenty to keep the whole family occupied, from Tobotronc (the famous slide) to an animal park.
  • Find some of the kids’ favourite cartoon characters on the hills at the Mon(t) Magic park in Canillo. (Which also features warm-weather activities.)
  • Get in some mental stimulation by browsing the art at Carmen Thyssen Museum as a family.

Apartaments Sant Moritz Is Your Go-to Accommodation Choice in Arinsal

An adventurous spirit and a tiny bit of planning can take a vacation from good to exceptional. Highlights of our discussion include:

  • Andorra is an all-season destination with tons to do here in warmer weather.
  • Even if you come for skiing and it ends up being too stormy one day there is a long list of top things you can do, from spas to shopping.
  • We’d love to see the whole family come and visit—Andorra is absolutely a kid-friendly destination.

Now that you have a fully booked schedule of activities get in touch with us to book your stay. We’ll find you the best rate and take care of the rest.
